Producers Michael Wilson and Barbra Broccoli have officially stated that development of Bond 23 has been halted as a result of the "uncertainty" of MGM's future. As of now, MGM has yet to be auctioned off and its pictures, including Bond 23 and the Joss Whedon's new 3-D converted Cabin in the Woods, are hanging in limbo. It is not a surprise that such an event has been announced, but the question remains, when will Bond 23 hit theaters?
The other question that arises from this is how much did Hot Tub Time Machine affect MGM? Hot Tub Time Machine, which was made for $36 million, has only grossed $42 million. To make a profit, they would need to make at least another $10 million, a figure which now seems unrealistic. At a time when MGM has already filed for Chapter 11, Hot Tub Time Machine has proved unnecessarily costly. Did this somehow affect Bond 23's development?
Hopefully, somewhere along the line, enough money will be pulled together to release Bond 23 on time in 2011 or 2012. But there is still nobody funding it. Who will provide the money to release Bond 23?
